In celebration of the new book, Prada, here is a review of a little Prada style. Take a hint from the iconic fashion house and enjoy the Fall/Winter Season looking chic.

In recent fashion news owners Miuccia and Bertelli Prada, have added a book to their arsenal of luxury products. The book available in Prada boutiques and online is filled with history on the Prada brand. In celebration of the new endeavor here is a review of their Fall/Winter 2009 Collection. What better way to celebrate the upcoming holidays than with a great coffee table addition and splash of Prada inspiration?

Signature Style

The Italian brand began as a leather goods company, specializing in handbags and shoes. As the company and brand evolved clothes, accessories, home goods, etc. came to be associate with a luxury brand known more for its unique take on what style and beauty are. This style is known for status and its quality use of fine fabrics, confidence and subtle sexiness.

With Miuccia Prada as head of the Prada Empire, it seems that the brand takes on a nontraditional approach to fashion. Not associated with overtly sexy or glitzy glamour, Prada takes its style from a place of fine craftsmanship, allowing the clothes to add to individual style and function.

Fall /Winter 2009

This season Prada went in a more serious direction with an updated take on the 1940s style of women’s suite and coats. Tough material like fur, leather and wool made a statement down the runway. When interviewed by Style.com, Miuccia Prada had this to say, "I didn't want to do anything about the city," she said, "more something about sport and the outdoors in general—freedom and nature. But in the end, I realized I liked coats and suits. It was serious, in a way. It was about a need for feminine empowerment."

This inspiration can easily be taken off of the runway. Take the key from the collection and find triangular shaped tops- find coats that create a nice v-neck and if possible find something at hip length. Take Prada’s queue and go for pencil skirts, knee high leather boots and a thin belt to complete the whole look. This season was about strange mixes of material like heavy wool with classic shapes.

Taking on the Prada vibe this holiday season involves embracing tweed tailoring, paillette embroidery and even fur (faux fur if you are a friend to the animals). All in all it is about heavy, dark material to bring an air of classic, luxurious style. Prada can be found in fine retailers across the world.
